What a wonderful place- our lodge is in the middle of the Marofandilia Forest/Kirindy Forest or as our guide says the “Dry Deciduous Forest”. We are here in the dry season so the trees have lost their leaves and the ground is dry.
At night it is so quiet you can hear your blood in your head- it’s slightly odd for it to be so quiet. It’s dark too. They have a generator that provides electricity during parts of the day- a few hours in the morning, a few in the afternoon and a few in the evening.
We got to see the endemic and endangered Fossa- a feline like animal that looks to be a cross between a cougar and a very large mongoose. It is only found in the Kirindy forest. The locals put out meat and periodically a Fossa comes by to eat it. We were lucky one came while we were there.
We went on a couple of night walks in the forest and saw some mouse lemurs and some sleeping birds- it is very odd to see birds sleeping.
During the daytime walks we saw more lemurs, birds, and an amazing snake.
