April 7, 2026: Bernal Glacier

Another day of glaciers but we only visited one glacier today. In the morning we were traveling and had a couple of presentations. In the afternoon we visited Bernal Glacier in Parque Nacional Kawésqar. We got to walk on shore and see all the vegetation and a special thrill- we saw a large bumblebee on the fuchsia flowers. The bumblebee seemed to be extra fuzzy.

Scenery on the way to Bernal Glacier
Rainbow- we’ve seen quite a few rainbows in Patagonia
Amazing sunlight and clouds
The first animal we saw after landing was the Ringed Kingfisher
Photographing the kingfisher and wonderful light on the nearby mountains
Loved the moss and lichen on the rocks
Trail to Bernal Glacier
Such amazing fall color
Beautiful lines were the glacier meets the rocks
This shows three zones of the glacier passing. The plant free zone is closest to the glacier and the most recent uncovered. The zone with lichen and the tree zone which has been glacier free the longest time.
Wonderful, warm, waterproof boots provided by Antarctica21 for the duration of the cruise
View from the lounge- rain on window and waving flag
